Positive Effects of having the new building:
• No more flies in the classrooms!
• More room for computer, science, art and ect. classrooms
• Nicer classrooms, desks and materials
Negative Effects of having the new building:
• Ipoly will not feel like the small, comforting school it has always been
• We have to be more careful with the new equipment
• We won’t be able to just “walk across the quad” to another teachers room
• The doors cannot be painted on
• And many, many more things that would be too long to list!

I really don’t care for the new building. I kind if like our little portables, it made us different. It made us IPoly. Plus I really like seeing the people’s faces when I tell them my school is in a parking lot.
Pros on having the building:
1- I don’t have to step in puddles on rainy days or fall in the cracks.
2- we get bathrooms that hopefully will have warm water.
3- everything is new
Cons:
1- It’s two stories so that means we would have to walk up and down the stairs.
2- It’s farther from Cal Poly, where some students eat.
3- a new building will attract students who might want to come which can cause IPoly to overcrowd.

I am not overly excited for the new building. I have been very content and happy with the current portables. They served our school well for years.
Pros:
1. I really hope the bathrooms are clean!
2. New classroom equipment.
3. More storage for the teachers, so the classrooms are not cluttered.
Cons:
1. It’s going to be tight with everyone in the building.
2. Stairs, I really hope the seniors are on the bottom floor…
3. You cannot just walk out side.

Honestly I am happy we are getting a new, and more permanent school, and I am also kinda sad to lose the old one so I am a little undecided.
Pros.
1. Our school gets a more permanent spot on the Cal Poly campus.
2. The Drama club will have a better place to perform.
3. The Juniors get to enjoy the campus for at least a year.
Cons.
1. We lose one of the things that makes our school special.
2. We wont get to go back and enjoy going to the school we started at after we graduate.
3. We have to walk a little farther for P.E. and the student center.
January 23, 2012 at 9:19 pm
Honestly I think that this is something new a change, with a little improvements all changes can be accommodated and even a bit liked. I stand on the acceptance side.
Pros.
1.) We will feel a bit more professional.
2.) When it rains the rooms might be warmer (L.O.L.)
3.) we won’t have to go to Ursa Major to go present.
CONS.
1.) concrete may be a little troublesome to have the girls present (in heels).
2.) the two story thing might a challenge for those who break something and need crutches wheel chairs and such.
3.) for those who eat up up it’s sort of an inconvenience .

To be honest I don’t know what the big deal is about the new building. I am sure that alot of thing are going to be different, like now iPoly is going to look like a normal high school.
Pros:
1. Classes will have more room
2. We will have our own everything
3. 2013 will be the first class to graduate from the new building
Con:
1. Father walk to eat
2. Father walk to P.E
3. More walking to get from class to class
January 24, 2012 at 6:09 pm
I don’t know what to think in regards to the new building. Its great and all, but I want to graduate from my portables. I stand against moving. I think it will greatly affect our Ipoly culture because big events will no longer be held at Cal Poly, students can’t spray paint on the floor, and ipoly will no longer stand out as much. Anyways, here are the pros and cons to this building:
Positive Effects:
1. Everything will be new.
2. On rainy days, we won’t get wet walking from class to class.
3. It will actually look like a school.
Negative Effects:
1. Carrying projects upstairs will be a burden.
2. It will take time to know our way around.
3. There will be no Thinnes Mart.
January 24, 2012 at 9:30 pm
I am nonchalant about the new building; it really depends on what I am thinking about because there are pros and cons to it’s construction. I feel our identity as a school was based on the fact that we were on a parking lot. It made us special and unique, but now, as things begin to shift into a “normal” school, I don’t know if I am ready for the switch.
Pros:
1. Hopefully we get our own parking lot. Cal Poly’s parking prices are ridiculous.
2. New bathrooms (enough said)
3. We will be graduating there first. That’s memorable.
Cons:
1. We will be packed like sardines. I heard the quad space was not nearly the size of what we have now.
2. Stairs sound dangerous and impossible if someone gets hurt.
3. I feel like the grade levels will be separated so our “family” will be gone.
January 25, 2012 at 9:19 pm
I will definitely miss our original “parking lot” school. I poly has taught me to not judge a book by its cover. On the outside it looks dull, old, and small. On the inside, I poly forms the greatest kids. After all that is what counts, Education. Nevertheless, going to a new building gets me very excited and eager to see the final product.
Pros:
- Advertisement, people will want to attend I poly because of all of the education, and the amazing building.
- Bathrooms
- 2013, will be the first graduating class.
Cons:
- Stairs will hurt our backs (hopefully we have lockers)
- We will be further from each other.
- During break everyone will be separated, and we will probably not have the radio show as our “bell” anymore. :..(
January 25, 2012 at 9:46 pm
Positive Effects
1) Better technology will be available and contribute to better learning experiences.
2) Cleaner bathrooms and hopefully all the stalls will be able to lock.
3) The class of 2013 will be honored to be the first class to graduate from the new building.
Negative Effects
1) Our school will now be a normal high school. I honestly think that our campus is a unique quality of I-poly High. Not many people can say that they go to a school that is made up of portables in a parking lot.
2) Students who have class on the second floor risk the chance of dropping their projects while going up the stairs.
3) Having a small campus really allowed everyone to bond together. I remember one of the first things that I heard about I-poly was that everyone was like one big, happy family. Honestly, I came to I-poly because I wanted to experience that sort of family feel and not worry about bullying. I’m afraid that with the new campus, people who are new to the school will never be able to experience that family-like atmosphere that I-poly once had.
January 25, 2012 at 10:18 pm
I don’t really care for the new building. I don’t dislike it entirely, but it doesn’t really matter much to me. I suppose I actually kind of like iPoly as some portables in a parking lot better because it gives the school character. I know I was pretty speechless when I came to the campus for the first time & saw nothing but portables. I think when iPoly becomes an actual school building, it will lose some of its uniqueness.
Positive Effects:
1. Cleaner bathrooms!
2. The class of 2013 will be the first to graduate from the new building.
3. No flies in classrooms.
Negative Effects:
1. No Thinnes Mart.
2. I don’t know if we’re getting a cafeteria, but we’d be a little bit farther away from the Cal Poly campus! Well, not too far but still.
3. The quad space is smaller.
January 25, 2012 at 11:17 pm
I’m not entirely sure how I could answer the question of which campus I belong because I haven’t been in the new building and I don’t know if it’s going to be a good change or not. But I think since it’s going to be a building we’re all going to bond together, although I don’t think we are going to change who we hang out with, in my mind, it should pretty much stay the same. But I think that I-Poly “culture” is our parking lot and being outdoors ALL the time, which is going to be sad once we get a new building. We are somehow loosing what makes I-Poly the unique school it is.
Positive:
1. We are going to have a cafeteria and that way we won’t always have to go up.
2. I think it’s an honor that we are going to be the first class to graduate from the new building. Class of 2013!
3. The classrooms are going to be more equipped with technology which will make it easier to do projects, class work, etc.
Negative:
1. We are going to be a “normal” high school with a building and the reason I came to I-Poly was because it was not normal.
2. Everything is going to be farther away like Denny’s, up, and the lockers. Honestly, I’m too lazy to walk extra. Oh, that goes for the stairs too!
3. We are no longer going to be outdoors and walk around in the rain. We are going to be deprived of our beautiful nature.
January 26, 2012 at 11:53 am
I like the idea of a new building, but I don’t really see what the big deal is. It’s just buildings, nothing really changes. We are going to be a “normal” school, and that’s what I like about iPoly; we aren’t normal.
Pros:
1. Classes will have more room
2. We will have our own everything
3. 2013 will be the first class to graduate from the new building
Con:
1. Father walk to eat
2. Father walk to P.E
3. More walking to get from class to class
January 26, 2012 at 9:18 pm
I’m going to miss the portables but at the same time I’m a little excited about the new building. I feel like the building might change the way our school is, in a way, because we won’t have a large quad where everyone can interact with each other, just stand around, and rush to our next class. We probably won’t have a student store anymore where we can buy emergency food and/or materials.
Pros:
1. We won’t have to rush around the quad on rainy days.
2. There will be more space in the classrooms (I hope).
3. We will have better technology to help us do our projects.
4. There won’t be people fixing the roofs all the time.
Cons:
1. The quad is not going to be as big as the one we currently have.
2. It might be difficult for injured people to go up the stairs.
3. The building will get very crowded when people ware walking to class.
4. we will look and feel more like a “normal” school.
January 26, 2012 at 10:46 pm
But… my Ipoly memories will be dead. I think the buildings are good and bad, but they will never be as good as what we have now. The portables are where we were basically “raised” our whole high school lives. Change isn’t always a good thing.
Pros:
1. You can jump without destroying the building.
2. You can say you go to one of those indoor schools in the movies/t.v shows.
3. Water fountains… enough said.
4. You can drop stuff on the freshman from upstairs.
5. The music we play will be louder because its indoors.
Cons:
1. The food is farther.
2. The gym is farther.
3. We wont have our portables.
4. The whole, “Lot K” thing is gone.
5. The grades will be more divided and the whole family thing is gone.
6. We can’t play Frisbee and stuff in the quad anymore.
7. They may not let us play music indoors.
8. You can fall down the stairs.
9. No one will be familiar with the school.
10. Our lunch time would be cut down because of the fact that everything is farther.
I think I stated my case.
January 27, 2012 at 12:04 pm
I really like the portable buildings that we are currently using. I will really miss the portables, because I have been learning in them for three years. I have learned many things in the those buildings with the limited resources that we have had over the years. I would like to spend my last year at I-Poly in the new buildings.
Positives-
1. We will not have leaking roofs.
2. We will have more resources.
3. Our classrooms will be connected, so when it rains we wont have to run to our classes so we will not get wet.
Negatives-
1. Our school will look more like a “normal” school.
2. Our school environment, which makes the school what it is will change
3. The quad will be smaller
January 27, 2012 at 1:43 pm
I think that the new school will finally make Ipoly a school to respect in all aspects.
Pros-
1. Ipoly will finally look like the school that it is, cut above the rest.
2. We will have better facilities
3. Ipoly will no longer flood
Cons-
1. We will lose some of our school spirit
2. We will be farther away from Cal Poly facilities
3. Our campus will become more enclosed
January 27, 2012 at 1:47 pm
Pros:
-No more freshmen blocking the doorways
-Closer to my bus stop; 486
-WATER FOUNTAINS
Cons:
-Won’t have that ‘family’ feeling
-Enclosed spaces
-No carpets. :C
January 27, 2012 at 1:53 pm
I have very mixed feelings about the new building. I hate change, and I don’t want my senior year to be ruined by an unfamiliar workspace. However, I know that the school in general will benefit a lot.
Pros:
1) We will have new, clean workspaces.
2) We will be protected from the elements (Ex. Rain, wind etc.)
3) I-Poly will be made a permanent fixture on Cal-Poly’s campus.
Cons:
1) When I come back with my children to show them my high school, the I-Poly that I knew so well will be gone.
2) There will be no real quad. I love the quad because I can see everything going on at once, and that makes me feel like part of a family.
3) With an actual building, one of I-Poly’s most charming qualities will be gone forever – the fact that we go to school in the middle of a parking lot :’C
(Let’s also not forget the fact that there will be no carpet for Mrs. Edwards.)
January 27, 2012 at 2:54 pm
The new building gives me a sense of joy, but at the same time I can not help but feel sad. iPoly has many unique qualities and the portables are one of those things.
Pros:
-I don’t have to stand in the rain/cold when I get to school early
-New bathrooms
-Everything will be new and pretty
Cons:
-Will lose “iPoly” feeling
-No lockers
-I might trip down the stairs
January 27, 2012 at 3:25 pm
I really don’t want a new building. I’ve gotten used to going to school on Parking Lot K and I don’t want that to change. I’ve enjoyed the uniqueness of iPoly and I will miss it very much. If I had the choice, I would stay in our portables.
Pros:
-Solar Panels (so I’ve heard…) meaning clean energy
-We will no longer have to endure that lovely smell of cows and sheep after it rains
-Computer room/auditorium/dance room
Cons:
-No Thinnes Store
-We’ll be “normal”
-iPoly will be farther away from the Cal Poly campus; more walking
January 27, 2012 at 7:03 pm
In regards to the new building, I personally lean towards the side of jaded trepidation. I am open to this new change, although I cannot help but think about the stress that falls under that class of 2013′s back of being the first class to graduate from iPoly version 2.0. The following is my list of pros and cons regarding the new building:
Pros:
-The dream for the new building is finally completed.
-The “family” sense of the school will not be lost. (Although some may argue that the “family” sense will be lost, it won’t because in reality, this “family” that people refer to only applies to certain groups of people. If “family” was applied to all students at iPoly, then there would be a lot of distant relatives. When one refers to “family” at iPoly, one merely refers to a group of friends and although we may be getting a new building, chances are highly probably that these friends will not be going anywhere.)
-There will be stairs, the food court will be farther, and the gym will be farther as well. This implies that students will get more severely needed exercise!
-I can be the first quad runner of the new school building!
Cons:
-The new equipment will most likely mean that teachers will revamp their components and make it more challenging for students to accommodate the newly acquired technology.
-Mrs. Edwards will have to walk on concrete floors with high heels.
-With the fact that the class of 2013 will be the first to graduate in the new building, that privilege comes with the consequence that the class of 2013 will set the standard for future classes. The responsibility to set an example for future grade levels will fall on us. We will have the power to retain the iPoly feeling or set the school on a downward spiral towards normality. The pressure to be the first example is definitely a double-edged sword,
January 27, 2012 at 7:14 pm
Well I am excited for the new buliding. I’ve always wanted to be in a regular high school and the new building would make it feel like that. I am going to miss the portables though. This new building should be something good for the students.
Pros:
- Bigger Classrooms
- Not stepping in puddles while walking to class
- Our own Auditorium
- First class to graduate from there
Cons:
- Further away from Calpoly
- Crowded Stairways
- Not being able to see your friends as much because of it being 2 stories
January 27, 2012 at 7:52 pm
I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily excited for the new building, if it turns out bad and doesn’t live up to expectations, I guess I can look on the bright side and realize that it will be my last year there. Hence, I won’t have to endure it for too long.
Pros:
- A new facility to enjoy
-Being the first senior class to graduate from the building
-More up to date supplies/better technology
Cons:
-More walking involved to reach certain destinations during lunch
-Having to learn to navigate in our new surroundings
- We’ll be a “normal” school.
January 27, 2012 at 8:17 pm
I for one am excited for the new building.
Pros:
- We’ll be the first senior class to graduate from it.
- It’ll have two stories (I think that’s really awesome.)
- We’ll have our own Auditorium.
Cons:
- Concrete floors. (ew.)
- We won’t be able to take advantage of the improvements it’ll have on all four years, we only get to experience one.
- I’m disappointed in how long it took to get the building.
January 27, 2012 at 8:31 pm
I honestly don’t mind the thought of a new building, but now that I thought about it I would fall into a view of jaded trepidation. New changes can sometimes be for the better and we would get what most of the students and faculty have been dreaming of, for years, but the thought of what we are leaving behind for the building.
Pros:
1. The better and up to date technology, would be an excellent resource for the students and teachers. It would provide them with newer opportunities for education.
2. On rainy days and days of severe weather, we would not be as exposed as we would be right now.
3. The new building would give Ipoly a distinguished appearance.
Cons:
1. We would be farther from Cal Poly’s facilities, limiting our use of their resources.
2. The School that the class of 2013, 2012 and all of the class before them, knew so well, would be gone. And to much of the alumni, Ipoly wouldn’t feel like their school anymore, as a result of the new building.
3. The smaller area would lead to an even more crowded school.
