Soooo, we only did two things in class today…. Of course we read for 20 minutes and then, we were sent to work on our Pop- Up Book Projects for the remainder of class time.

That was really it for english class today, so remember our project is due Monday at the BEGINNING of class, so work hard this weekend!

Alrighty, Cya West House

Alright, so it was a pretty typical, busy day in English class with Mrs. Edwards.We did our usual reading for 20 minutes at the beginning of class and then she sent us on our way to work with our partners for the Pilgrim Pop- Up Project! Do not forget, for West House only, the project due date has been changed to Monday, the 30th at the beginning of class.

So, just an update, final grades for the semester are in, so if you have time, stop by to see Mrs. Edwards for your final grade. Also, writing workshop pieces have been graded and put up onto Turnitin.com, so check them out!

Alright, so today, January 23rd, was not such a bad day in english class. As usual, we did our SSR for the day and Mrs. Edwards introduced Blog Assignment #17.

But before we get to the typical stuff, I just wanted to say congrads to West House for having 3 AE’s out of 4 for our Writing Workshop pieces! And to Jordan who is one of those AE’s
By the way, all the grades for your pieces will be posted on Turnitin.com on the 28th and if you have any concerns about your grade, please contact Edwards.

Okay, now the Blog Assignment #17, it is pretty basic, all you need to do is LIST in BULLET FORM, 3 things you like about having the new school building and 3 things you dislike about having the building.
*Please no paragraphs or essays for this assignment!*

After we went over the Blog Assignment, Edwards had the class sit into our Pilgrim Pop- Up Project Partners. She then pasted out both the Pop-Up book Specs and the Questions for the project. She is was originally giving the class 2 and a half class days to work on it, but we had a small interuption from Hunzeker today.
Hunzeker came in to finally give West House our PSAT scores and give us a great load of information concerning college.

Anyhow, instead we will still have this week to work on the project, but it will now be due Monday, the 30th, with no presentations!
Then, Edwards just explained the Specs for the project, that need to have all the question answers in the book, with a bibliography, no page count and that will be on a 100 point scale.

Part one of the project is mostly research, which all needs to be cited, where part two is from the text of the Prologue from Canturbury Tales.

Lastly, if you did not catch this, Edwards said if you bring in gluesticks, you can get extra credit for second semester!

How to write an essay intro and thesis

The intro: The introduction is designed to attract the readers attention and give an idea of the focus of the essay.

Parts of an intro:

1. Begin with interest grabber

2. If its only one or two sentences add one or two more sentences to lead to the thesis

3. Finish with the thesis statement.

*Types of attention Grabbers.

o  Give startling info that’s true (FACT)

o  Tell an anecdote (Short story) (Don’t get crazy/caught up with it)

o  Dialogue/Quotations (Make sure you quote famous people)

o  Ask a question or present a problem.
